Romantic biography of a colorful figure, Madame Tallien, daughter of a Spanish banker, caught in the turmoil of the French Revolution and swept into its very vitals. At times she seems almost a fore-runner of Mata Hari, so various are her activities, her emotional entanglements, so deep a part she played in manipulating the cards Fate dealt her. Wife to one of Robespierre's minons, mistress of Barras, a factor in throwing Josephine into Napoleon's arms, -- she played a vital part in a dramatic period. Her story makes good reading.
