The author of The Theory and Practice of Communism provides in this new book a thesaurus of the political vocabulary which must be understood now that we are confronted with the Soviet Union as a formidable world power. The terminology of communism is ideological in origin, already hackneyed in use- and misuse. The terms ostensibly stem from principles laid down by Marx, Lenin, Stalin and others. Without a reasonable acquaintance with these theoreticians, the jargon is unintelligible. Mr. Hunt has placed approximately fifty key phrases in their historical and ideological context, providing at the same time a Western commentary and intellectual criticism. He demonstrates the many contradictions within the theory and the practice. All State measures must be justified theoretically. It is enlightening to observe the conceptual extremes used in explanation. The clarity of this study does not sacrifice the level.
