A love story set in the twilight of Imperial Russia--told with towering ineptitude and eye-crossing gaucherie. The lovers are ethereal Olga, elder daughter of Czar Nicholas, and Englishman John Kirby who seems to be idly spying here and there. After a left-leaning princess introduces him to the royal family, Kirby is received as an adored friend by the Czar's children and welcomed by Nicholas. Olga and Kirby fall in love and in between Kirby's escapes from the Bolsheviks, at last hold hands before the debacle. The few gauzy moments dissolve in silly verbiage--when the princess goes swimming with her lover, ""their costumes merged wetly. . . ."" Very wetly.
