But all that glitters isn’t gold, and the tale’s central mystery is dark and gritty, challenging readers’ expectations and pushing the dynamic hero down a disturbing path. Themes of domestic violence and retaliation may be triggering for some readers along with Celeste’s transformation into a literal femme fatale.
