The author of Famous American Spics (1962, p. 187, J -65) here presents sketchy portraits of some of the men who made America what it is today. Among those lauded are Roger Williams, William Penn, George Washington, Lincoln, Samuel Gompers, John Marshall, and Woodrow Wilson. The choppy sentences which the author employs when recording fact combined with the slightly sentiment approach to the description of emotions and personality do not make a very readable book. It will be useful, however, if the student merely wants an outline of a man and his achievements.
