BACK DOOR TO DEATH

Repent at Leisure (1962) introduced a gentleman -- detective, Potter, to the community of Bridgetown, Connecticut, and Potter is again she volunteer operative when multiple accidents that might be murder revolve around the fortunes of the Hardin family. But actually the interest centers more on the interfamily relationships, as the charming helpless mother puts out her octopus tentacles to hold all of her grown children in a stranglehold. Terry, newly wed to the younger son, proves an obstacle -- and is crudely framed to be suspect in the murders until Potter untangles the web. Slick.
