CHIVALRY

Sabatini is a somewhat predictable sale -- you know your local consumption. This is not quite down his usual cloak and sword romance track, as it has the earmarks of being an historical panoramic novel of the exploits and the loves of a leader of mercenary troops, a gentleman adventurer, one Colombo da Siena. There is an episodic character to the story, although it builds up, eventually, to the linking of Colombo with the maiden he loves. The period is the 15th century, the setting, the strife torn battleground of Italian city states.
