How autobiographical my art is... I have revealed myself.... long before this rambling chronicle was conceived, not only by the usual automatic revelation of the artist's personality but through the subject matter which is my life."" The subject matter is here in an achronological, agreeably disconnective fashion with an emphasis on the paintings of others from country to country and museum to museum. Occasional snatches of Soyer's Childhood filter through (""I could dig much deeper if I had courage"") born a twin, he was taken to the doctor's in the hope the he would not be returned. There are travels, there are talks with others, comments on art today (""nothing communicable""), on his first Work and on this writing which is an escape from the ""confusing, choleric world of art.
