KIRKUS REVIEW

A first mystery story by a British author provides a colorful Italian background for the sleuthing of horticulturist, Mr. Thomas Puckle. Lady Malmaynes has sent for him to replace two plants that have been killed and when she herself dies, it is Puckle who interprets the superstitions of the Straven family and the past history and scandals that have led to murder. A whole boiling of confidences for quiet competence.
