In Nature's Pincushion (1972) Buxton okayed porcupines as pets; here he recommends tame flying squirrels purchased from pet stores. We feel it's in everyone's best interests--children and animals alike--to discourage keeping non-domesticated pets. Otherwise this is an informative, unobjectionable introduction, though neither the ho-hum pictures nor the cuddly tone Babcock occasionally adopts adds much to the natural appeal of nature's nocturnal gliders.
