KIRKUS REVIEW

Mr. Charell is a chronic kvetcher -- more really, a negotiator sharper than Cardinal Richelieu (helped by a law degree) and a documentarist (letters--editorials to the Times, etc. courtesy here of Xerox). There's no telling who he has by the tail be it Con Ed 'or the phone company (after 30 calls he headed on to the Public Service Commission), Saks or Steuben, a small bank or a larger brokerage house, with a long, most successful tenant (re)action against his landlord. Charell does all this honestly -- not ripping anyone off, just asserting the rights of the independent consumer in this slipshoddy age of indifferent to negligent practices. He may be a hedgehog to have around the house but he gets results.
