KIRKUS REVIEW

The prolific author in a variety of different subjects dabbles here in ten of the currently most popular sports. Each is described with a brief run-down on the sport's history, the techniques involved, the equipment necessary, the variations available, the types of competition, the well-known names, and other pertinent information, and accompanied with a brief glossary of special terms. The general reader may appreciate this abbreviated treatment for some of the less available forms of athletics--like free ballooning, skydiving, or ice boating, but others, like water skiing, skin diving, or surfing are available in much more complete, explicit coverage. On the whole, it's an unnecessary book, of interest only for the stay-at-home who wants to keep up with the vocabulary of his more outgoing friends.
