EXPERIENCING AMERICAN PICTURES

Pearson, well-known art critic and teacher attempts to prove that it is possible to relearn the approach to art, to discover a synthesis of expression and pictorial form. To this end, he presents characteristic works of the past decade in the fields of photography, advertising, cartoons, comic strips, illustration, prints, paintings, analyzing them for the contribution they make. He discusses form, rhythms, design, composition, light, abstraction, the differences between factual and creative art -- all to the ideal end of learning to experience pictures, rather than to appraise them intellectually.
