Inevitably, this must be compared--and contrasted--with the wholly new concept of the Hammond Atlases. While Rand McNally, with its policy of annual revision, updates factual data, such as the new African states, the revised boundaries, etc., the basis of arrangement remains fairly static. hammond has made drastic changes in the order of area arrangement, in the inclusion along with each area group of maps, of the pertinent text material, plus area indexes. This we feel an enormous forward step. One enticing facet of the Rand McNally Atlas, not included in the Hammond Atlases, is the full color astronaut's eyeview of the earth from outer space. Factually, the updating of this new edition includes more than 5,000 revisions in population and geographic changes.
