KIRKUS REVIEW

This addition to the many titles that have been published in this field has the distinction of being written by a Park Ranger and his knowledge of camping life has the background of authority. The book is designed for first time trippers as well as those who are more experienced in hunting, fishing, hiking and exploring back trails. It details how to plan and organize for travel by car and trailer, canoe, in the desert or in snow, on foot with knapsack, or by saddle and pack; it lists equipment and costs and sources of information for state and national parks, national forests; there's material on campfires, cooking and grub lists, outdoor know-how, compass and maps, horseback and pack loads; and the very necessary information on safety (at all times), accidents and first aid, and, in emergencies, survival living. Worthwhile for reference as well as in the field.
