Mr. Billington has written at great length and with careful attention to detail of the anti-Catholic persecutions from 1820 to 1850 in the hope that a knowledge of past intolerance will broaden our vision and understanding. Perhaps he is right. I hope so but venture the readers who will pay $5.00 for this enormous work are few and far between. It is a book for the student of history, the exponent of religious unity, the priest or clergyman who would know both sides of the controversy.
