What The Garden Encylopedia is to a vast number of gardeners, this new and complete-in-one-volume Hunter's Encyclopedia should be for the sportsman. For here -- with the cooperation of fifty authorities (their names familiar to everyone who has read at all in this field) and the museums and research institutions, is a complete reference work. I tried it out- via the excellent and comprehensive index- on a few odd items which had been difficult to find in other sources- and here they were. Zoologists, biologists, botanists, ballisticians, craftsmen, gunsmiths, hunters -- all have been brought to bear so that the factual content will be accurate, majority opinion presented in controversial issues, and the text brought into focus for quick reference or detailed expansion, as the subject demands. The topics are grouped in logical divisions, and within those in alphabetical sequence. Diagrams, maps, sketches of tracks, photographs- and one section of game birds in full color, make this- with its thoroughly readable text- a mine of information. For each bird of animal included, the points covered include historical data, marks of identification, characteristics, breeding, range and district, hunting methods. An Appendix provides data on game conditions and regulations, federal and state.
