KIRKUS REVIEW

These are the collected short stories, twelve of them, that appeared over five years in The Saturday Evening Post and follow in the character-situation pattern of Mr. Botts, Mr. Glencannon and Tugboat Annie, etc. For Blue Chip is a master mechanic (""maniac""); war orders and rigid specifications for Army and Navy are driving men and machines mercilessly and it is up to Blue Chip as superintendent to keep them sparked, efficient and productive. New problems turn up in each story, new demands spur him to various techniques and tricks, and in each it is Blue Chip and his own personal way of handling his workers and his machinery that brings satisfaction to the military as well as the plant. Easy going masculine reading.
