High school football in New Jersey is sparked and won by the efforts of Andy Carter who brings more to his game than the ability to play well. His first problem comes with a necessary machine shop course, the hours of which conflict with practice time; his second with Ken Blair, a whiz and a braggart whose father thinks he should be given even more of a chance. Steady Andy, who concentrates on lesser things like helping the B team get ahead, provides a spiritual as well as a materi force that sees Riverdale win through.
