EXPLORING THE WORLD OF LEAVES

Wohlrab's clean looking photo-illustrations and hints on how to make an aesthetically pleasing presentation of leaf specimens will appeal to those who simply enjoy identifying and collecting leaves. But his text de-emphasizes description and is really aimed at science students who want extra material on photosynthesis and transpiration. With the help of a few basic experiments (best carried out in a school lab), Wohlrabe explains the processes' chemical bases and later, at some length, how they were discovered. The incorporation of recent research, such aa identification of the phytochrome pigment thought to control the ""sleep movement"" of leaves, gives this volume an edge over Hutchins' popular This is a Leaf.
