Any youth of a mechanical turn of mind whose idea of a career tends in that direction will find this the answer to a prayer, for -- so far as I know -- there's not another book which treats of this subject -- the new machine age. There is no attempt to make this a how-to-do book. It is definitely a vocational book, which gives the ""feel"" of the trends of the times in this ""metal cutting and metal forming country"". Cutting machines, grinding wheels, oxy-acetylene flame, fabricating machines, assembly lines, molding machines, the punch presses, the lathe principle and variations on it; milling machinery, drilling, broaching, gear cutting machines; the hydraulic electric principle, the future of electronics, etc. Then he takes the fields of man power, -- tool makers, operators, designers, inspectors, estimators; production department men, functions of drafting. Finally, the route to this job -- how to use the High School facilities, commercial training schools, apprenticeship opportunities, method of applying for a job, tests, form of agreement -- and the future. It is a foreign tongue to me -- but Yates is dependable, and it seems exactly the right approach.
