THE AMERICAN CENTURY OF JOHN C. LINCOLN

This is an account of a rather remarkable man, John C. Lincoln, inventor, and founder of the Lincoln Electric Company of Cleveland. The acknowledged leader in the are welding industry, -- widely known as a ""small"" business which showed - liberal employee and incentives, he has enabled it to hold its own in an area dominated by giants General Electric and Westinghouse. Lincoln's life virtually spanned the second half of the 19th century and the first half of the 20th and he was active in other companies and in mining and allied ventures in Arizona where he spent the latter part of his life. Moley has chosen to insert his own conservative views on politics and business into the biography, but this is not its main fault. Rather the book is a routine view of both the man and the period, uncritical to a fault, and surprising in view of this writer's experience.
