FAMOUS SCIENTIFIC EXPLORATIONS

Using many personal accounts as his source material Mr. Holden's selection of five recent scientific explorations has been retold with skill in condensation and the ability to present the highlights in smooth exciting prose. The expeditions included are the descent of the Beebe-Barton Bathysphere, the climbing of Mount McKinley, the discovery of Tut-Ankh-Amen's tomb, the Burden expedition that found valuable lizards on Komodo Island and the Canadian Arctic expedition of 1915-18. Ranging the globe as it does, the collection creates a good sense of our widely varying geology as well as the historical and scientific backgrounds that gave significance to the explorers and their efforts. Good reading.
