KIRKUS REVIEW

Yale man into Navy flier provides a really funny tour of training, from Dowd's unsuccessful attempts to join up to his eventual acceptance in Naval Aviation and his family's and friend's reception of his new status. Then on to Anacostia and a flight to the Admiral's back yard; home on leave; Corpus Christi and a wonderful madness in the Link trainer, instrument and radio training, patrol bombers and miracles, solo flight in a P-boat, and finally, graduation. Not literature, but fun -- smart patter and bright chatter.
