A HOUSE FOR LEANDER

A boy Peter, a dog Leander, and an architect Uncle Jim, get together for some beguilingly doggy housebuilding in a story with vim but little poignancy. When Peter gets Leander from the poultry man Mr. Flynn, there are the concurrent problems of Leander's large size- he's full grown- his affection- tail wagging knocks things off tables- his lonesomeness. Uncle Jim plans him a house with porch and a rear room for tail space, and an accurate diagram for it is included in the illustrations. Appeal lies more in Maurice Robertson's friendly drawings and the actual tale telling itself than the mundane problem solving.
