SONGS THE SANDMAN SINGS

Some of the Songs the Sandman Sings are mild protests but more are drowsy little rhymes from the past. Grouped by subject (""Tucked In,"" ""Lullabies,"" prayers, etc.), they include lines from Farjeon and Coatsworth, Vachel Lindsay and de la Mare, William Blake and Mother Goose. The simple pen drawings are rather literal and unimaginative; regrettably, no music has been included. This is--intentionally--not a book to arouse excitement so although it may be handy as a reference (more than 50 poems), it's no real treat for bedtime--just background music.
