The ""Cage"" is America's intelligence base outside of London, where Europe's secrets are stored and where plastic-pretty Mary Larsen, having indubitably murdered her Air Force Security Service husband, lies dead herself on President JFK Avenue at the end of a tragic stake-out. Unfortunate marital squabble? Toughtender Special FBI agent Lou Finucane intuits otherwise, refuses to drop the case, and, touring Rome, Paris, and the secrets of the Cage itself, comes up with Mary's real motive--a mix of wife-swapping, secret-selling, and skeletons in the Air Force closet. This is highly respectable if undistinguished investigating from the author of Drawn Blanc and Somewhere in England, with hardly an extra word, a spare moment, or a false move.
