FICTION OF THE EIGHTIES: A Decade of Stories from TriQuarterly

In celebration of their 25th anniversary as a literary journal, TriQuarterly is publishing their Spring/Summer 90 issue in hard-cover--a carefully chosen anthology of 47 stories by American and international writers that have appeared within their pages in the 1980's. The collection is a walk through some of the best contemporary short-story writers, displaying a variety of styles and sensibilities, from Grace Paley's ""Midrash on Happiness""--a dialogue between Faith and Ruth in which Faith defines what ""having everything"" means--to Raymond Carver's ""Where Is Everyone,"" in which family and booze are no refuge for the narrator's constant loneliness, and Robert Coover's delicious morsel of metafiction, ""A Sudden Story."" Other well-knowns include: Richard Ford, Tobias Wolff, William Goyen, Joyce Carol Oates, Leslie Marmon Silko, T.C. Boyle; there are also a few surprises--John Sayles, David Quammen, Robert Boswell--and a host of new talent and some writers in translation. An excellent anthology that could have benefited only by the inclusion of short bios.
