MEMOIRS OF A SECRET AGENT OF FREE FRANCE

In a first volume, a rather lack-lustre account of a De Gaullist intelligence network in France in 1940. Gilbert, the agent, formerly connected with a bank, joins the De Gaullist movement and is sent back to organize espionage at a time when loyal followers were few, and France's resistance was at a low ebb. Shuttling from Madrid to France, as a movie producer, occasionally accompanied by his family, little effort was made apparently at deceit, written memos were kept, etc. Evidently success was predetermined, or at least due to other departments of the underground. The purpose and achievement of this book no doubt is the relief of suppression- off the author's chest and to a general public if there is still a market. We question it.
