LAROUSSE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF BYZANTINE AND MEDIEVAL ART by Rene- Ed. Huyghe

LAROUSSE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF BYZANTINE AND MEDIEVAL ART

By

Publisher: Putnam- Prometheus

From the early centuries of the Christian era down, through the Gothic Middle Ages, the editor, aided by contributions from fifteen art historians, attempts to reveal the unity of man as seen in the Byzantine and medieval art of disparate cultures in Europe and Asia. Of the 1,000 illustrations (not the best in this series), 36 are in color; numbers in the margins of the text refer to appropriate pictures, many of which are grouped in insets, necessitating back and forth referencing between text and plates. A great amount of important information has been organized from a useful point of view, and gathered between two covers.
