KIRKUS REVIEW

Rene Guillot again relates a legend out of India, similar in feeling to his The 397th White Elephant. Small Ajmil, who was stolen as an infant and became an elephant boy, is taken under the wing of Itao and Adja, an older boy and girl, homeless like himself, who maintain bare subsistence on Genie Mountain, above Elephant Valley. To sixteen year old Itao visionary little Ajmil's talk of heroic deeds and wanderings is simply idle chatter. He could not know that the younger boy's leadership and daring in rescuing the Princess Narayana of Rajpur would cost him his own life one day.
