LAROUSSE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF MODERN ART

The fourth and final volume in the Larousse series Which reaches from the beginning of civilization to the present, the Encyclopedia of Modern Art covers the time-span from 1800 to the mid twentieth century. Again there is a concern for movements in relation to the total life of the period; again all forms of visual art--architecture sculpture, design, photography, painting and minor arts are given attention, 1100 illustrations, 57 in full color, provide the retrospective and reference (the index applies to both photographs and text). The black and whites are no more than satisfactory, tending to underexposure. Still, a solid value.
