The result of Rothenberg's explorations of the Desert of Sinai gives credence to biblical descriptions of such places as Kadesh-Barnea, Mount Hor, Jotbathah, and Mount Seir and serves as a modern day test of the Bible's historical accuracy. The archaeologists who went forth into Sinai admirably recorded their discoveries in 90 superb black and white photographs showing prime sites of the drama of the Exodus, relics and ancient cults, early Christian pilgrimages, Byzantine art treasures as well as a picture of current life in this territory. The scholars' odyssey took them along the road to Isle, around Sinai's southern coasts, across the mountains of the interior, through the magnificent St. Catherine's ""monastery of the burning bush"", and down into the Valley of the inscriptions. the events of this intensive expedition, in a first person account, the author provides skeptic and believer alike with provocative historical evidence for a new appraisal of an ancient book.
