BOBBY FISCHER'S CONQUEST OF THE WORLD CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP: The Psychology and Tactics of the Title Match

Fine was an earlier International Chess Champion before he became a practicing psychologist; Bobby Fischer's mother once consulted him about her intractable child and after playing against Fischer, years ago, he tried and failed to talk to him. This is a short (less than 100 pages) discussion of Fischer, all of which you know, except perhaps for Fine's application of his newer art/ science to Bobby's ""paranoid"" psyche and to the game. Whether you want to view Fischer as a ""social isolate"" or a ""folk hero"" or as both -- Fine does -- he's still the same impossible, brilliant phenomenon. Fine also adds a little interpretation (chess this time) to the Reykjavik games appended. But for an additional dollar you can acquire the revised edition of Frank Brady's Profile of a Prodigy (also McKay) which gives three times as much about Fischer and three times as many games.
