The modernity and adaptability of the Church to the modern age are exemplified in this collection of the addresses of the late Pontiff, Pius XII, by a graduate engineer who is now a Catholic chaplain at Purdue University. Father Haigerty has rendered a service in collecting and organizing 34 addresses and 35 excerpts out of the voluminous public utterances of the ""Pope of technology"", unifying them about the timely theme that the late Pope's voice was raised warmly and sympathetically to science out of an awareness of the vast historical and cultural and religious implications of technological culture. The compiler sees the problem confronting the Christian mind today as one which involves meeting the challenge of modern technology in a positive and imaginative manner. The sufficiently developed theology and Christology, to lay hold of the technological age with inspiration and vision which these times demand, certainly will be promoted by this summary of the thinking of the late Sovereign who showed the way in which technical progress is to be guided by a dynamic Christian wisdom. Pius XII and Technology is a thesaurus for all interested in learning the Church's views on progress from agriculturalists through space scientists.
