A century ago Prince Gallitzin, known as the apostle of the Alleghenies, lived in Loretto, Pa., established an amazing missionary work in which he was succeeded by the author of this book. The translator has faithfully given us exactly what the German edition contained, and this is therefore a source book which, though tedious in spots, is extraordinarily interesting to the average reader. To the student of Catholic missions, it will be extremely valuable, and it has its appeal for those interested in the mountain and farm people and their customs.
