KIRKUS REVIEW

Must item for collectors of Lincolnia, this collection of 120 photographs of Lincoln, chronologically arranged, of Mrs. Lincoln and the children, 88 of people in Lincoln's life, and the Steichen portrait of the life mask. Meserve gives in caption form the data as to photographer, when and where the photograph was made, and his introductory notes provide an historical memorandum on the development of photographic processes up to Lincoln's time. Sandburg, great authority on Lincoln, writes of Meserve, in tribute to his work, and at greater length on the subject of ""the face of Lincoln"". Anecdotal material--some of it new--and a fresh approach.
