Conversations in the Nude made Reed a Hollywood household dirty word. It also gave him the kind of status not easily ignored. Here he gets to every celebrity from Bette Davis to John Voight. And they do open up. There's Uta Hagen explaining why she never could do commercial ""crap""; Oskar Werner bitching about directors; Ruth Gordon: ""Liss-en, I went on stage to meet a lotta swell people and make money. . . . All I wanted out of a career was to look like Hazel Dawn and wear pink feathers."" But what makes Reed really too much is when he's on his own, say, at the Academy Awards--""Elke Sommer (a real live-wire and all-around great actress who added glamour and excitement to the show when they could have gotten people who don't mean anything, like Bette Davis and John Crawford) gave the Sound Effects award to The Dirty Dozen, an unbearably inept film which made a big impression on the Academy because it had a lot of guns going off."" For the ""best explosions, fires, earthquakes or hurricanes"" Natalie Wood gave the Special Visual Effects award to Doctor Dolittle, a film with no explosions, fires, earthquakes or hurricanes."" You should see what he does to the Golden Globe Awards ... not to mention Miss America. Read Rex.
