In a few words The Girl That He Marries should be pure, shut her mouth, like his ties (even when they look Tie City Jewish), and actually replace his mother as a hate object after all her years of gefilte kvetching. Although why a sexy gift like Stephanie, her ""medieval"" integrity notwithstanding, should bother with Richard-No-Name (it turns out to be Slentz) who is also Richard-No-Calls (except at erratic hours when he's with his amatory, unmarriageable Italian Innocent Marie) may be beyond you. At first she's hooked by Richard because he's very vague (""Catch you later"") and good at games which the late Eric Berne would find really unreal. Finally Steph (Richard makes it sound like an infection) is definitely not going to marry Richard--in fact she has never succeeded in getting him into bed, let alone a double bed. It would seem that the #1 nocturnal attraction Mary Hartman isn't the only one with this problem. This book will remind you of Gaff Parent who co-scripts that show and might give it a possible audience referral. There are a few bright and bitchy lines but not enough to carry the plot which is admittedly more sophisticated than those Armstrong-waxed kitchen confrontations.
