KIRKUS REVIEW

Thesis novel of the conflicts of ideal communities with the realities of living and human progress as young Polly learns that her beloved Elysian Field, in upper New York, bears no relation to actuality in the late 19th century. An accident has brought young tough Dan to the community and he decides to become a member when Polly promises to marry him. Then, in the outside world, he faces problems the world of the community cannot answer -- and Polly is forced to decide their future. A more serious type of novel, perhaps, than one associates with Rhoda Truax.
