It is a sound middle-of-the-road point of view, objective, balanced, and sufficiently stimulating to the interest and enthusiasm to carry one on to reading the poets with deeper understanding and sympathy. The touchstone of modernity lies, she feels, in the attitude of freedom, in variety of subject matter and treatment, and in the interpretation of human values in forms of modern environments.
