THE BOY'S BOOK OF GUN HANDLING

By

Pub Date: June 5th, 1964
Publisher: Putnam

The author teaches the Contraflex Theory for the accurate shooting of fles, shot guns and pistols. This method stresses relaxed shooting with the body thought of as a ""shooting platform,"" working and braced as a sort of letter X which allows for individual differences in physique. Starting with rifles, and ending with the hand guns, the author shows in words and pictures how control is achieved. He points out the most common mistakes as he goes along and explains how these can be corrected. The variations of target, skeet and trap shooting are covered at length as well as hunting lore. His lectures are step-by-step instructions and from the start, he emphasizes safety. ""Any gun has two extreme ends. The end at the front can kill, and the end at the rear can cripple."" There is a cautionary chapter on ""A Code for Hunters"" and an afterword about the responsible handling of eapons. The enthusiastic beginner will benefit most from the book, which was esigned to be used by readers who can test the advice with practice.
