THE FIRST BOOK OF INDIAN WARS

A rich compendium of American Indian history, this book depicts the history and character, in the many groupings, by describing the crucial battles in which they partook. In his examination of the Indian at war, Richard Morris manages to achieve a clear differentiation between one tribe and another. He also interpolates significant moments of white history, maintaining a general level of objectivity in his analysis of motives and ramification over a period primarily between 1622 and 1800. The final comments reflecting the current status of the reservation Indian seem perfunctory and inadequate. Since this phase is not strictly within the domain of the text, it might better have been omitted rather than to be brushed off so casually.
