KIRKUS REVIEW

This is not an appraisal of the content of this book, but simply an announcement of this latest addition to the larger picture- Rise of Modern Europe, edited by William L. Langer. It seems particularly important, for during these years the totalitarian seeds were planted, and a study of power politics, of liberalism, of the emergences of the masses, of mechanization, of nationalism as opposed to imperialism, all makes for better understanding of the world of the 20th century. These volumes go beyond politics and military strategy to stress the economic, social, religious, scientific and artistic aspects of history.
