Two modern philosophers have selected extracts from the writings of the great philosophers from Plata to Bergson, and supplied brief introductory commentaries which place the individual philosopher in his period, and analyze briefly his contribution to philosophic thought. There is a certain slight emphasis on perennial issues, indirectly linking the ways of thinking, living, being to current problems. I should define this as a philosophy syllabus, a ""taster"" for beginners. The material has been tested out over several years work with Columbia students, and an analytical index for cross reference gives it wider use. Primarily a book for colleges and public libraries.
