Father"" is another of these ingratiating small potentates, counselor, manipulator, confessor and prime mover in a small town in California (Santa Yhel) where, incidentally, he is editor of the local paper. Put this is more a picture of a small town than merely another ""country editor"". The book has a nice feel; genial, sage and comfortable, with ""Father"" staying clear of religion and politics, getting undercover information via the blacksmith and the Chinese laundryman, and keeping busy with the town activities. Good West Coast book, and should have a general appeal for those who like American life patterns.
