By

Pub Date: May 8th, 1940
Publisher: Henry Holt

Running a duderanch in the Andean mountains, the author learned the amazing oures that natives can work, investigated the making of poisons and medicines, and heard when spastic paralysis almost finished him, that ourare alone could help him if it were available, he returned to South American jungles to study the drug. He also studied other remedies and herbs, and brought them back so they could be analyzed and applied. His love for the jungles, the Indians, his personal experiences with them, are all told with a warmth and sympathy that takes this out of the adventure for adventure's sake class and gives it a special appeal.
