MAKE YOUR OWN COMICS FOR FUN AND PROFIT by Richard Cummings

MAKE YOUR OWN COMICS FOR FUN AND PROFIT

By

Pub Date: June 1st, 1976
Publisher: Walck

Writer/cartoonist Cummings prods neophyte imaginations (where do you get ideas?) and offers a lot of technical tips on everything from page and frame composition, shots and angles, and story conventions (the sidekick, the double identity) to reproduction, ""publication"" (as greeting cards, school work, etc.) and copyright. Most helpful is Cummings' application of his guidelines in both approving and critical commentary on the amateur and professional examples reproduced throughout. It's annoying that, in a book that concentrates on visual impact, the examples and their analysis are so often an overleaf or more apart. Still, Cummings' practical critiques should give a big push to those who want to get serious about comics.
