KIRKUS REVIEW

A collection of classic records of travel and exploration, starting with Marco Polo and ending with Richard Byrd. Some historical significance, some significance in subsequent effects on travel, on opening up new areas -- but primarily the selections are made for that wide market to which travel books are endlessly appealing. Most of us have planned to read at some time or other most of the selections here included,- Hakluyt, James Cook, Parkman, Livingston, Stanley, Peary, etc. Many points of the globe are encompassed. The mood changes from the romantic to the scientific approach. But always there is the fascination of the unknown. Public library item, particularly.
