THE YOUNG NORTHWEST

Into about 250 pages, the dramatic, colorful story of Washington and Oregon, (and later Idaho and Montana) has been packed. It is a big canvas, filled with big people, whose stories can be only lightly etched; it is a story of struggle, first of Nature, in forming the country, with its vast riches; then the Indians, the explorers, the despoilers; finally, fur traders and established posts; missionaries, giving more than they took; pioneers, eager to make homes in a new land. The beginnings of all that the Northwest today are there-enough to lead to further fields. Well done.
